When the Weigher isn't working as it should

It shows an outage you didn't notice#
Short outages are easy to miss: two failed checks a minute apart are enough. If they're too short to matter to you, raise An outage after (Advanced). On a café's or hotel's Wi-Fi, an outage is shown until you've signed in to its page.
It blames the wrong side#
Whose side is found by asking your router. A router that doesn't answer pings looks like this PC's or the router's side, even when it's the provider's. A modem behind the router isn't seen.
Speeds are below your plan#
- Over Wi-Fi, the signal and link speed limit it. Each sample shows them: try a cable to the router.
- Other traffic on your network, a download or a stream, slows a sample.
- A plan over 200 Mbps is under-measured at 10 MB: raise Download per sample (Advanced) to 50 MB or more.
If it's still low over a cable, at quiet times, see Check your provider gives the speed you pay for.
Samples are skipped#
The sample says why:
- Metered connection: Windows says this connection is metered, so the Weigher sends nothing. On a home connection you don't pay for by the gigabyte, turn Set as metered connection off in Windows' Settings > Network & internet, under the connection's properties.
- Battery saver: turn off Skip samples on battery saver, or plug in.
- No internet: the line was down.
It uses too much data#
A sample is 15 MB with the defaults, about 3.6 GB a month. Sample less often (A speed sample every, Advanced), or with less (Download per sample and Upload per sample). Settings says how much at your settings.
It says "not watched"#
The PC was asleep or off, or the Weigher was off duty. That time is neither up nor down.
Its page won't open#
Its page is http://weigher.localhost:20606/. Open on its card in Castellan starts it if it's down, and Castellan checks every two minutes that it answers, and opens it again if it has stopped.
