When the Herald isn't working as it should

A game has no patch notes#

• It's only sold in its own launcher, and isn't on Steam's store by exactly its name (Riot's games, say). Give it a source under Games you add (Advanced): its Steam app id, or a feed of its patch notes.
• Its publisher posts notes elsewhere, on its own site or Discord, or posts them on Steam untagged: they show as quiet announcements. Turn off Only patch notes are news to see every announcement.
• More than 5 came out between two rounds: only the newest 5 are read.

A game isn't listed#

• Its launcher is off under Launchers (Advanced), or it's left alone under Games.
• Its launcher isn't one the Herald knows: add it under Other launchers (Advanced), with its games folder.

A game I play isn't relevant#

"Played lately" comes from Steam, which is the only launcher that records it, and only for this PC. Add a keyword the game's notes use, its name say, to have them flagged.

No new driver is shown#

Only NVIDIA publishes a list of its drivers a program can read. For AMD, Intel and Qualcomm cards, only the driver you have installed is watched: a change is news once it's installed. The page links to where their drivers come from.

The weather is for the wrong place#

Windows' location can place the PC by its network, to the nearest town. Type your town, city or postcode under Weather.

A stock alert came late#

Quotes are delayed, and stocks are checked once a round. For the Gamer or PC caretaker, a round is every 6 hours: set A round every (Advanced) to 60 minutes, or use General purpose or the Financial guru, which look every hour.

A source says it failed#

The page says what didn't happen, what the Herald does next, and what you can do. The others carry on. When the PC is offline, sources show "offline", keep what they had, and are read again next round.

There are no summaries#

The line on each item says why:

• The local AI isn't set up: see Set up the local AI.
• "Busy: summaries deferred to a later round": the local AI was busy. The next round tries again.
• The notes are short: short notes are shown whole, not summed up.
• Plain-words notes is off in Settings.

Its page won't open#

Its page is http://herald.localhost:18888/. Open on its card in Castellan starts it if it's down, and Castellan checks every two minutes that it answers, and opens it again if it has stopped.
