Close a background app#

  1. Open the Shepherd's page: Open on its card in Castellan.
  2. Tick the apps to close.
  3. Press Close the ticked ones, and confirm.

The Shepherd checks each app is still the one it listed, still has no window, and still qualifies; then it asks it to close, as Windows does when you sign out. Anything else is refused, and the log says why.

An app may come back: many start again on their own. If it's one that starts with Windows, see below.

When an app won't close#

An app with no window often can't be asked to close. The page then says to tick force.

  1. Tick the app, and tick force.
  2. Press Close the ticked ones.

Forced, the app is asked first, and ended if it's still running five seconds later.

Keep an app from starting with Windows#

  1. Under Starts with Windows, find the app. Each shows what it used since it started.
  2. Press Don't start with Windows.

It's turned off as Task Manager does it: the entry stays, switched off. Start with Windows again, on the entry or on its line in the log, turns it back on.

Apps that start for every user of the PC need an administrator: the page says to use Task Manager.

Leave an app be#

Leave this one be, on a stray, means it's never listed again. To list it again, take it off Left be in Settings.
