Find the duplicates#
Open Heiward's page, http://heiward.localhost:18484/ (or Open on its card in Castellan).
- This PC has a card per drive, with its free space, its photos and videos, and its sets of copies. Below them, the folders where cleaning up frees the most.
- Open a folder to see its subfolders, sorted by space to free if you like, and only the duplicates that touch it. Copies and look-alikes are on separate tabs. A copy kept in another folder is dimmed, and says so.
Heiward's name, in the title bar, goes back to This PC from anywhere.
Clean up a folder#
- Open the folder.
- Look over the ticked copies. Each set keeps one file; change the ticks if you'd rather keep another.
- Press the button to move the ticked copies to the Recycle Bin.
They go to the Recycle Bin, so you can restore them from there. Your cleanup is one line in History, on This PC.
Look-alikes#
Edits, crops and similar shots are never ticked for you. Open the Look-alikes tab to choose. Skip all keeps every look-alike set in that folder as it is, and takes them off the list; review again, on its line in History, brings them back.
Choose what's scanned#
Right-click a folder (or press the menu key on it):
- Leave out of scans: it's skipped from the next scan on.
- Include in scans: for a folder left out, by you or by Heiward's rules.
Right-click a drive and choose Scan only when I ask for an archive disk you'd rather let sleep. Its page has Scan this drive now.
Pause, or stop, scans#
- Stop scan, while a scan runs, stops it within a second.
- Pause stops the scan running, and skips the scheduled ones: for an hour, 4 hours, until tomorrow morning, or until you resume. Scan now still works while paused.
Let it clean up by itself#
Once you trust what it ticks, open Settings (the gear in the title bar), and turn on Automatic cleanup for duplicates.
- When: once something has been listed for 3 days. Each set says when it goes, with Leave it to keep it.
- What: plain copies only (identical, or the same picture pixel for pixel, and identical videos), to the Recycle Bin.
- Never by itself: edits and look-alikes; copies in a cloud-synced folder; a set whose kept file changed; and what looks like a backup of a whole folder (20 or more sets between the same two folders). The page can allow those two folders.
A notification says what went, and History marks it Automatic.
History#
History, on This PC, lists what you cleaned up and kept. Clear history empties it and forgets the file names. To keep none, turn off Keep a history in Settings.
