What the Scribe does#
The scribe kept the manor's record in writing, so anything could be found again. The Scribe keeps the screenshots you take in your games: by game, in one gallery, and found by the words in them.
It holds the Clerk's office on a gamer's PC, with the Clerk behind it, which reads every screenshot you take, not only games'. On an everyday PC, the Clerk holds it.
The Scribe comes with the Household license. It uses no AI, and never moves, changes or deletes a screenshot.
Where it finds screenshots#
Every 30 minutes, and when you press Look now:
| Capture app | Where |
|---|---|
| Xbox Game Bar | Captures, wherever Windows keeps it |
| NVIDIA (the NVIDIA app, or GeForce Experience) | A folder for each game, in Videos |
| AMD (Radeon ReLive) | Radeon ReLive, a folder for each game |
| Steam | Steam's own screenshots folder, named by game |
| Others | Folders you add under Other screenshot folders: each folder inside is a game |
PNG, JPEG and WebP. A file still being written waits for the next look. Each screenshot's game comes from its name, as the capture app gave it, or its folder.
What it does with each#
- Makes it small, for the gallery: a thumbnail, kept in the Scribe's own folder.
- Reads the words in it, once, with Windows' own text recognition, on this PC. Nothing leaves the PC.
Up to 150 a look, newest first: a big collection takes a few looks the first time.
Search#
Type words: the game's name, words in the screenshot (a quest name, a score, a chat line), or a month and year. Three letters find the words they start. The screenshots with your words come first, then the newest.
Its page#
The Scribe's page is at http://scribe.localhost:21717/, and Open on its card in Castellan goes there. It has a search, and each game's latest 12 screenshots, with Show all for the rest. Open one to see it full size, with the words read in it, Open full size and Show in its folder.
Its settings#
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Other screenshot folders | None | Folders another capture app saves to. Each folder inside is a game. |
| Read the words in screenshots | On | Off: thumbnails only, and a search finds games and months. |
| Look for new screenshots every | 30 minutes | 5 minutes to a day. |
What it can't do#
- HDR screenshots Game Bar saves as
.jxrbeside a.png: the PNG is taken, not the JXR. - Words in a stylised font, or small on a busy scene, may not be read: Windows reads clear text best.
- A Steam game you've uninstalled is named by Steam's number for it, until it's installed again.
