Chronicler: release notes
Each version, newest first.
0.1.1
The Chronicler's first release: your game clips, sorted by game and made smaller when you ask, on Snapdragon PCs too.
What's new
- Everything in 0.1.0 below: clips found and sorted by game, smaller copies made when you ask, originals sent to the Recycle Bin only when you press the button.
What changed
- When the video tool the Chronicler finds on your PC can't make clips smaller here (an older copy left by another app, say), the Chronicler sets it aside and uses its own, which reaches the PC's video hardware. On Snapdragon PCs this is what lets it make smaller copies at all.
- A tool set aside stays set aside until it's replaced or updated; then it's tried again. A video tool you chose yourself in Settings is always used, never set aside.
Before you update
- Nothing: it starts looking for clips as soon as you hire it. The first time you make smaller copies it may fetch its own video tool (about 12 MB).
Installing
- Castellan installs and updates it by itself. To install it by hand, unpack the zip anywhere and run
node src\cli.ts install(Node 22.18 or later).SHA256SUMS.txtlists its SHA-256 (PowerShell:Get-FileHash).
0.1.0
The Chronicler joins the gamers' household: your game clips, sorted by game and made smaller when you ask.
What's new
- Finds the clips Xbox Game Bar, NVIDIA and AMD save, and any folder you add, and sorts them by game, the biggest first.
- Makes smaller copies of a game's clips when you ask, in a folder for each game, keeping a copy only when it's really smaller and plays the same.
- Moves an original to the Recycle Bin only when you press the button, and only once its smaller copy is kept.
- Says what the smaller copies have saved.
Before you update
- Nothing: it starts looking for clips as soon as you hire it.
