The Pinder

Constable

HouseholdWorks on its own, within what you allow

Finds what got in your game's way.

While you play, it sees what else uses the processor, the graphics card and the disk (a launcher updating, OneDrive syncing, a virus scan), and says when the game had to share. It changes nothing unless you tick a fix.

The pinder kept the manor's pound, where stray animals were held until they were claimed.

Constable's icon

The Pinder has three hires. On an everyday PC the Shepherd takes the office, on a gamer's PC the Constable does, and the other keeps working behind it. Both are in Household. With Workshop, the Pinder takes the office and the others keep working behind it.

What's new

Every release

0.1.0

The Constable joins the gamers' household: what got in your game's way.

What's new

  • While you play, it looks every 10 seconds at what else uses the processor, the graphics card and the disk, and stays out of the way itself: a look costs a few milliseconds.
  • After each session: what else ran beside the game (another launcher updating a game, OneDrive syncing, a virus scan, Windows Update, a browser, Castellan's own AI), how much, and when.
  • When the game had to share the PC, and with what.
  • Plain advice for the programs it knows, and one fix you can tick: pause OneDrive while you play, started again when the game ends.
  • Don't mention it, for the programs you run beside your games on purpose.

Before you update

  • Nothing: it starts watching as soon as you hire it.

Installing

  • Castellan installs and updates it by itself. To install it by hand, unpack the zip anywhere and run node src\cli.ts install (Node 22.18 or later). SHA256SUMS.txt lists its SHA-256 (PowerShell: Get-FileHash).
